Yesterday, we drove an hour to purchase a flame weeder which we couldn't find in stores locally. We discovered a new place to purchase our supplies from in the process so the trip wasn't completely wasted.
Right now, we are waiting on the mushroom spores to arrive so that we can cut the trees into logs and move them to a different location to innoculate them with the spores. It will be our first time so I'll be sure to share our experience. Once those are out of the way, then my understanding is that we will use the flame weeder to start a fire which will burn off the section of land in which we intend to plant.
Look, Mom! I’m on TV!

I had to google on flame weeder to see what one looked like. It wasn't like I imagined, a high pressure device that would spray gasoline from your porch onto the brush 100 yards away. Your version will probably be better for a controlled burn. It should be good soil once you get it cleared, nothing like new ground!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the reassurance on the soil. I had actually questioned whether the soil tests we had done would still be up to date after burning the brush. MrLivingOurWay says they should be fine. We are hoping that since we are having to clear new land, it will be easy to qualify as organic.
