An ongoing debate at our house is leaving the windows open at night. I admit that on the occasion when I've napped by an open window, it is a wonderful feeling with a cool breeze of fresh air blowing on me. I also admit that the idea of having my windows open at night scares me. It's not that I'm worried about myself or my stuff. I'm worried about the FindingOurWays sleeping peacefully in their bedroom. I have found some gadgets that go on the windows to lock them on a low level that I'd be willing to try.
What are your thoughts on open windows at night? Is it safe?

I feel perfectly safe as long as DH is home. If he's out on the road, then I shut and lock all windows at night. Would love to be able to leave the windows open a crack and secure them like that.
ReplyDeleteWhere are you that you need to lock your windows?!?! We don't even lock our house when we aren't home! Long live Canada :)
ReplyDeleteI think it depends where you live. How you feel about your area. I've lived in areas I would lock everything at night and I've lived where I leave it all open at night (and when I'm not home). That's the main thing for me is how I feel about my area.
ReplyDeleteHope you're having a great summer. :)
Yes, I agree, it depends on the area where you are living and on if you are alone. Having dogs in the house is good too. I used to live in a house that had windows that would lock at different spots so I could leave the windows open say 4 inches but locked.
ReplyDeleteThanks to your post and a dose of hydrocodone for a horriffic migraine, I had nightmares that people were breaking in through open windows with intentions of shooting my husband and I *all*night*long*! LOL! Logic goes out the window in the middle of the night for me, especially when I'm in pain. I live out in the country. It is very common for rural houses to be burgularized because there is very little traffic and most people commute for income in this area. Theives know they have at least 8 hours to get a home cleaned out if that's what they're scheming. I like to have windows open when I'm home, but if not, every thing is locked up tight. :-/
ReplyDeleteI don't understand locking the windows... it certainly wouldn't prevent a burglary. It is to easy to just break it or kick the door down. If someone is going to steal my stuff, I think the door and window is more expensive to replace then what they could ever take. I do wish someone would take these old TV's so I don't have to pay the recycling fee at the landfill site :)
ReplyDeleteare you there? doing ok? just not in a blogging mood lately?
ReplyDeletehope you are enjoying fall. our weather has been beautiful. i hope my garden keeps producing. :)
With a dog, I wouldn't worry. If whoever is out there would prefer not to break the glass, he'd prefer not to mess with a barking dog.
