There is no greater feeling than knowing that you grew or raised every part of the meal that your family is eating. This first happened for us about two years ago. We had a roasted chicken and vegetables that night. We like knowing that our food supply is safe and hormone free.
Tonight, we had our first homegrown meal of the season. We had a soup made our of bone broth and meat from our chickens, radishes including greens, green onions, beat leaves, cabbage collards, and lettuce all from our garden. We hope that this will be the first of many homegrown meals this season.
I know that many of you are also having your first homegrown meal of the season. What was your first homegrown meal this season? What will it be? Is this something that you look forward to as much as we do?

Looks good! We're still looking forward to our first all-homegrown meal of the year. We plan to butcher our fist chicken soon, all those roos are beginning to strut their stuff. Your new chicks are so cute. Love them when they're so little.
ReplyDeleteI am trying, though pretty much unsuccessfully, to not be jealous. I just got my garden in! Oh well, better late than never, I guess.
ReplyDeleteDelores this is the first year we've gotten so much planted so early. Last year it was just peas. We also knew that since I am sensitive to nightshades for now (hopefully not by the end of the summer though) we were going to have to plant something else and decided to concentrate on an early spring garden. There will be some tomatoes and peppers going in but they weren't grown from seed. Our summer garden is not yet planted but we are making some changes as to where the gardens will go so that is taking some time.
